Legislation drafted by Wild Friends, with the help of students, grades 4 through 12, from 12 schools across New Mexico, has passed the NM State Legislature. Senate Memorial 103’s focus is urging State Agencies to protect declining bee populations and requesting the Governor to declare “Bee Aware Day” to promote education about the importance of bees to New Mexico’s economy and quality of life.
The original SJM 6 passed the Senate, but was stopped in the House Agriculture, Water and Wildlife committee. A Wild Friend’s sponsor filed a nearly identical memorial (SM 103) that passed the Senate Conservation committee a second time. SM 103 passed the Legislature 36-0.
Congratulation to the students and to Wild Friends!
