I just started keeping bees this past year in the Sacramento Mountains (High Rolls) and I got my nuc from Ken Hays in Bosque Farms. Check out his website at http://www.hayshoneynm.com. The seminar will be on 11 May this year and I plan to order a few months nucs from him this month to be picked up at the seminar.

I recently received a 10 frame hive for Christmas and am excited to start as a beginner beekeeper. Any suggestions for where to buy bees (I am in the Roswell area)? Was thinking it’s probably best to start with a nuc? Will potentially end up buying another hive, as from what I’ve read it’s best to start with two if possible. Any…[Read more]
Congrats on the new hive box. You are in for a lot of fun, work and a bit of heartache. My suggestions would be to read as much as you can and find a mentor close to you.

I have attempted not to purchase bees but to do cut outs and capture swarms from the local area in Roswell.…[Read more]
Thank you all for the suggestions. Will definitely check out those suggestions and Facebook groups! I really appreciate all the help.

He has not been as active in management as I am with my h…[Read more]
Is this normal? I was checking on my “girls” after work today when I noticed this large cluster hanging out at the entrance to the hive. Is this okay? I haven’t seen them behaving this way before. This was a 7000 bee nuc that I moved to this box on 12 May. As of last weekend they were building on six of the ten frames with a lot of new white…[Read more]
